domain There are many good reasons to buy a domain name for your website or blog, instead of just hosting it on a subdomain or folder of any other domain. Let me quickly point out a few advantages of the same:

Unique Identity: Your domain gives you a unique identity and makes information on your website belong exclusively to you. You email address becomes your contact card and gives a credible professional touch to your business and a personalized experience for your personal website.

Own your email: It lets you choose email address of your own choice, plus with a little tweaking, you can use your same email address to chat with your AOL, MSN, Yahoo and Gtalk friends, not to mention you get screenname of your choice.

Secure email: Your mailbox is owned by you which ensures more privacy, and as long as you own the domain, your email is going to stay with you. No worries about your ISP going out of business. Noone can hack your mail, even if they can, you can reset the password instantly from the backend and prevent any damage. Secondly, you get better spam control options and you can use the cool catch-all service too.

Better SEO: All search engines consider a domain to be more credible than a subdomain. Also due to shorter link phrase, you get advantage on keyword weightage distribution.

It's so inexpensive: In the end, I feel funny to give reasons why you must buy a domain name when it is as cheap as $7/year. Now .info domains are for sale by Godaddy and you can buy them for as cheap as $1.99. It's cheaper than a pizza and can make a great birthday gift and is more usable than anything else for that cost.

Sooner or later you will realize that you should have bought that domain of your choice. But don't wait until it is too late to see someone else playing with his website on that domain.

Okay, so you are excited to buy a domain for yourself, but before you jump to a domain selling website, you may like to know a few tips before buying a domain.

So happy to announce what is seems so obvious, that now we have a blog. Apart from company and industry news, you will find tips and articles in the blog. I hope to add more authors soon to the blog. While writing this post I suddenly realised that I forgot to make any category for such theme less posts, so just to compensate here is a short review about one of the popular webhost..

Dreamhost

Just to remind you about this compensatory post, nothing official about it. My personal experience with dreamhost hasn't been very good, probably due to my personal preferences. I am a huge fan of file managers, and I love the option of uploading a zip file and extracting all its content in the web folder, sounds pretty simple. I never liked using that ftp, and then its something obvious you must get with your hosting. File manager was a big disappointment for me using Dreamhost. Java upload option was just too slow and then there were upload limits too. Even the support team wasn't able to help me with php.ini to increase the limit. Another point of disappointment was the speed of websites. My sites hosted on bluehost would run thrice fast than those on Dreamhost. While dreamhost always provided more space, more bandwidth and everything, it is so unrealistic because no one is ever going to use their "Unlimited Space". To speak about bandwidth, its not really unlimited and its not even half of it. Auto installers were another dirty joke of Dreamhost. They would just upload the files up there and send the database details to the mail address and rest was to be done by me. It could most generously be called as semi-auto-installer.

One thing that I really loved was the simplicity of switching your mail box option from default to Gmail. That was pretty slick. Also Dreamhost provides more control over your hosting than any other shared host. But even though they provide advanced options, the quality of their service can only be recommened upto beginners.

Can you guess what is common between Dreamhost and this post? They both are first of their series (dreamhost was my first paid host) and they both are cheap ;).
